Interlibrary Loan Policy
The purpose of Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is to obtain materials for patrons that are not available at the Library, and to loan materials found at the Library to other libraries.
ILL services are provided to all library registered borrowers whose borrowing privilege is in good standing. Patrons are entitled to five (5) Interlibrary Loan Requests at no charge within a calendar year. Additional requests are filled at a cost of $2.00 each. Requests for ILL may be made in person, by telephone, or by electronic means to the Reference Department. A separate form must be used for each title requested.
Adequate information to properly identify the requested title must be given to the person taking the ILL request (author, title, edition, etc.). In order to request an article from a periodical, the title of the journal, date and page numbers (if possible) as well as the title of the article will be required. It is also helpful to provide the source of the journal citation whenever possible.
The Library will normally absorb the cost of returning ILL items to the lending library unless unusual charges are imposed by that library (insurance, etc.). The person requesting the ILL is responsible for paying these unusual charges and will be informed beforehand. Photocopies are assessed a per-page charge unless a flat rate is assessed by the lending library. Patrons must assume responsibility for all fines and late fees. If items are lost or damaged, the patron is expected to pay whatever charge is assessed by the lending library and their library card will be billed for such costs.
Materials that may be borrowed:
A loan or copy or any material may be requested from another library, but the lending library will decide in each case whether or not to loan an item.
Materials that may not be borrowed:
The circulation period is two (2) weeks. Patrons who need to renew a title should contact the Reference Department. Requests for renewal must be made before items are due or overdue. The lending library will determine if the material can be renewed.
ILL privilege will be suspended for those failing to pick up items, return item(s) on time, pay fines/fees and/or fail to return borrowed items (even if they pay for them).
A fine of $5.00 per item will be charged if items are not picked up.
